Beautiful copy of this cult classic, which was published just before Middleton died unexpectedly at age 43. William Trego of Meadow Run Press printed high-quality fishing books for two decades, and Starlight was one of his early ones. Middleton, whose best-known work was a memoir of his Ozark childhood titled The Earth is Enough, was celebrated as one of America's finest angling writers, but his work transcended the genre into the realm of memoir and natural history. "[T]he Starlight Creek Angling Society was always in session, for the society was not a club really so much as it was another way the old men celebrated their good fortune, a fate that included hardscrabble poverty and the inexorable beauty of Starlight Creek--a bounty of wild water and wild trout they steadfastly refused to compromise..." (from the book). [Thacher p. 359] Dust jacket present. First Edition.
